TRIVIA: Who played Perseus in 1981's "Clash Of The Titans"? ROG'S VIEWPOINT ![]()
(2 CAMS) RATED PG-13Seeking revenge for the death of his human family, Perseus (Sam Worthington), the mortal son of Zeus (Liam Neeson), sets out with a small band of warriors to battle the underworld forces of Hades (Ralph Fiennes). Giant scorpions, the snake-haired Medusa and the monstrous Kraken stand in the way of defending the city of Argos from the wrath of the gods. "Clash Of The Titans" is a disappointing attempt to remake the 1981 Ray Harryhausen stop-motion epic. While the special effects are good, director Louis Leterrier (2008's "The Incredible Hulk") shoots most of the action sequences close-up. Both the acting and the awful 3D are rather two-dimensional. The fake 3D is a result of upconverting a 2D print. My wife and I experienced some double-imaging with very little depth while wearing the glasses. A Harryhausen prop from the original makes a brief appearance for film buffs. The winged horse Pegasus is now black. Actresses like Gemma Arterton as Perseus' protector and Alexa Davalos as the princess are inserted as eye candy between battle scenes. Enough said about changes. Sam Worthington is the new go-to guy for action movies, with "Avatar" and "Terminator Salvation" also on his resume. Will "Sinbad" be in his future? If 3D was the main reason behind this project, why not just upconvert the 1981 original? If not, the reasons behind this "Clash Of The Titans" rehash are Greek to me.
