TRIVIA: Russell Brand and Jonah Hill had roles in which 2008 theatrical comedy? ROG'S VIEWPOINT ![]() ![]() ![]()
(4 CAMS) RATED RRecord company intern Aaron Green (Jonah Hill) may live to regret his suggestion to stage an anniversary concert at LA's Greek Theater with British rocker Aldous Snow (Russell Brand). Company mogul Sergio Roma (Sean "P. Diddy" Combs) agrees to the performance and commands Aaron to get the difficult star from London to the Greek on time. On the line for the harried intern are his job, his girlfriend (Elisabeth Moss) and his life. "Get Him To The Greek" is an outrageous and wildly entertaining escapade. Good performances by Russell Brand and Jonah Hill make this an above-average comedy. Director Nicholas Stoller ("Forgetting Sarah Marshall"), who wrote the screenplay with an assist from Jason Segel, has concocted a perfect blend of humor and serious moments. With Judd Apatow as a producer, this film has its share of gross-out jokes. But the energetic cast makes it all easy to take. Rose Byrne is fetching as Jackie Q, a rock goddess who's the object of Aldous' affection, and Colm Meaney steals a few scenes as his estranged dad. Cameos from the music world, like Lars Ulrich and Pink, dot the scenery. There's also a hilarious Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell), who dated Snow, sighting. And Sean Combs can act - bringing new meaning to company "head". Some brilliant original songs, from Aldous Snow and his band Infant Sorrow, fill a great soundtrack. A couple of the tunes and music videos could score nominations during the next awards season. Branded with laughter and a few tears, "Get Him To The Greek" is a rock-solid joy ride.
