TRIVIA: Paul Greengrass first directed Matt Damon in which 2004 spy thriller? ROG'S VIEWPOINT ![]() ![]() ![]()
(4 CAMS) RATED RChief Warrant Officer Roy Miller (Matt Damon), encountering covert and faulty intelligence, goes rogue to uncover the truth about Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq following the 2003 American invasion. "Green Zone" is an intelligent and riveting fast-paced thriller. Director Paul Greengrass deftly unfolds the complex story. The only problem is his affection for close-up, shaky camera work. Designed to put the audience in the action, watching this on the big screen tends to be a bit nauseating. Fortunately Matt Damon and a fine supporting cast compensate for any shortcomings. Greg Kinnear is convincingly unlikable as Clark Poundstone, the Pentagon Special Intelligence leader who tries to stop Miller from completing his mission. Other notables include Brendan Gleeson as a CIA operative and Amy Ryan as a foreign correspondent who investigates the existence of WMDs. Some have perceived this movie as anti-U.S., since the main villains are American. But so is the hero. This is Hollywood at its finest - where fact magnificently collides with fiction. Greengrass and Damon have successfully teamed in the past. "Green Zone" is the type of movie they were "bourne" to make.
