TRIVIA: John Cusack made his big screen debut in which 1983 movie? ROG'S VIEWPOINT ![]() ![]()
(3 CAMS) RATED RBored with their lives, friends Adam (John Cusack), Nick (Craig Robinson) and Lou (Rob Corddry) head to a ski resort where they had some good times in the past. Tagging along is Adam's nephew Jacob (Clark Duke). While sitting in a hot tub at the now broken down resort, the foursome is transported back to a weekend in the 1980s where they have a chance to fix the future. It is also the weekend when Jacob was conceived. Will he cease to exist? "Hot Tub Time Machine" is a surprisingly funny nod to the 80s teen sex comedies. The twist here is that the roles are played by grownups. This wild and crazy romp would have been better without some visually shocking gross-out humor, but director Steve Pink is obviously trying to satisfy the masses. John Cusack, who is also one of the film's producers, heads a cast that handles the comedy with ease. As an angry and depressed alcoholic, the outstanding Rob Corddry adds a bit of drama to the mayhem - setting this movie apart from the average sex farce. Chevy Chase is on hand as the all-knowing hot tub repairman. He needs a vacation. There is a hilarious running gag involving Crispin Glover as a one-armed bellhop, who may or may not lose his arm during the weekend. Destined to be remembered for its title, the almost cool "Hot Tub Time Machine" bubbles over with satirical fun.
