TRIVIA: Michael Cera played George-Michael Bluth in which 2003 TV series? ROG'S VIEWPOINT ![]() ![]() ![]() (4 CAMS)
RATED PG-13Charlyne Yi and director Nicholas Jasenovec set out on a journey to make a documentary about love – the one subject Charlyne doesn’t fully understand. Along the way, she interviews a wide variety of people and meets actor Michael Cera. Has love found Charlyne Yi? “Paper Heart” is a delightful concoction that is billed as half documentary and half narrative. The movie is so expertly crafted that it is impossible to tell what is real and what is fiction. While Ms. Yi and Michael Cera play themselves, actor Jake M. Johnson portrays director Nick. The performances all ring true, resulting in a film that magically flows from beginning to end with a feeling of romantic reality. Interviews are plentiful, ranging from couples to singles to opinionated kids at a playground. Some of the tales of romance are depicted as paper puppet shows (created by Charlyne), which make creative transitions to locations that extend from the U.S. all the way to Paris, France. This cinematic gem is at its best when the charismatic and bubbly Charlyne Yi is on screen. She is a stand-up comic and musician – both talents are put to good use in a film that hopefully won’t get lost among this season’s blockbusters. The heartfelt “Paper Heart” finds love in all the right places. Check out our PAPER HEART interview with Charlyne Yi and Nicholas Jasenovec.
