In this cartoon adventure, a macaw named Blu (voiced by Jesse Eisenberg) finds love when he's kidnapped in Rio de Janeiro.
TRIVIA: Donald Duck was introduced to Rio de Janeiro in which 1942 Disney movie?
(3 CAMS) RATED PG
Macaws Blu (the voice of Jesse Eisenberg) and Jewel ( voiced by Anne Hathaway) fall in love while running from bird smugglers in Rio de Janeiro. Also on their trail is Linda (Leslie Mann), looking to reunite with her beloved pet Blu. "Rio" is an animated romp with a familiar story that benefits from some spectacular cartoon scenery and eye-popping 3D. Aimed directly at the kids, adults will have to be content with the in-depth backgrounds and the samba sounds of Sergio Mendes. There's also a bit of fun in picking out the voices of Jamie Foxx, Will i. Am, Wanda Sykes, Jane Lynch, Tracy Morgan and George Lopez. "Ice Age" director Carlos Saldanha warms things up for this south-of-the-border adventure, but often-seen plot twists and the predictable ending get in the way. Still, the cast of characters are a joy to watch. While not in the same league as those Pixar classics, there are much worse ways to spend an afternoon. No birds were harmed, only kidnapped, in the making of this film. Since the little ones will be amused, the high-flying "Rio" won't ruffle any feathers.
