TRIVIA: What was the first movie starring Mike Myers to spawn a sequel? ROG'S VIEWPOINT ![]() ![]()
(3 CAMS) RATED PGExperiencing a mid-life crisis, ogre Shrek (the voice of Mike Myers) is tricked into signing a life-changing deal with Rumpelstiltskin (Walt Dohrn). The green giant finds himself in an alternate version of Far Far Away, where Rumpelstiltskin is king and Fiona (Cameron Diaz) is a rebel leader who doesn't know Shrek. Now Shrek must find a way to undo this terrible mistake. "Shrek Forever After" is the darkest entry in the series, but is mildly entertaining thanks to the addition of Rumpelstiltskin and 3D. Donkey (Eddie Murphy), Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) and the whole gang return in this twist on "It's A Wonderful Life". What's missing are the rapid-fire jokes and background sight gags that made the original "Shrek" endearing and enduring. Director Mike Mitchell ("Sky High") brings back some of the humor that was missing in "Shrek The Third", yet fails to create a movie that requires repeated viewings. Rumpelstiltskin, with his wigs and witches, is a funny new character. Very little is funny this time around about Donkey or even the now pudgy Puss. To compensate for these shortcomings, 3D is added. But the wow factor is fading as theaters get flooded with the added dimension. While not the worst, "Shrek Forever After" is reported to be the last. This means that another version is probably not far far away.
