Disney animates the story of Rapunzel (the voice of Mandy Moore) with music by Alan Menken.
TRIVIA: Which 1989 animated classic contained Alan Menken's first Disney original score?
(4 CAMS) RATED PG
Kidnapped as a baby and not knowing she's a princess, teenager Rapunzel (voiced by Mandy Moore) has lived her life in an isolated tower with Mother Gothel (Donna Murphy). Rapunzel is unaware of powers from a magical flower that flow through her long golden hair and Mother Gothel wants to keep it that way. When dashing bandit Flynn Ryder (Zachary Levi) happens upon the tower, the princess sees her chance to visit the outside world. Now her past could be revealed and resolved. Loosely based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale, "Tangled" is a marvelous and magical musical animated adventure that is sure to please both young and old alike. A new Disney empowered heroine, a hero, a villainess and a couple of scene-stealing animals enhance the witty script. Most notable are a palace guard horse named Maximus, who acts like a bloodhound, and Pascal, Rapunzel's pet chameleon. Thanks to directors Nathan Greno and Byron Howard, Walt Disney Animation Studios has created a computer-animated delight that rivals Disney's Pixar releases. The songs by Alan Menken are reminiscent of the studio's finest, but not as memorable as "Beauty And The Beast". An added treat is the spectacular 3D that transports the audience into this cartoon world. But the third dimension isn't needed to enjoy this cinematic experience. Towering above most of this year's family entertainment, "Tangled" puts a happy twist on a grim tale.
