TRIVIA: Chris Hemsworth played the father of an iconic starship captain in what 2009 sci-fi film?
Arrogant warrior Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is banished from the heavenly kingdom of Asgard by his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and sent to live on Earth. Smitten with scientist Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), the earthbound God of Thunder retrieves his hammer to become a defender against otherworldly dark forces. "Thor" is an enjoyable popcorn epic with a perfect mix of action and humor. Almost as good as "Iron Man", the unspectacular 3D isn't needed to appreciate this effects-laden comic book movie adaptation. Chris Hemsworth makes a stalwart hero, easily handling the many action scenes while also delivering a few laughs. He gets plenty of help from acclaimed director Kenneth Branagh, who takes his Shakespearian filmmaking skills to new heights, and a stellar supporting cast that includes Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins. Tom Hiddleston is both creepy and formidable as Thor's brother Loki. With a nod to Norse mythology, this latest addition to superhero cinema is a blockbuster in every sense of the word. Stick around for a surprise scene after the closing credits. It's hammer time! "Thor" is another marvelous adventure. |
