TRIVIA: What 1985 action drama featured a runaway freight train and Jon Voight? ROG'S VIEWPOINT ![]() ![]() ![]()
(4 CAMS) RATED PG-13
A runaway freight train carrying dangerous chemicals is headed for disaster. Aboard a different locomotive, veteran engineer Frank Barnes (Denzel Washington) and young conductor Will Colson (Chris Pine) chase down the runaway to prevent it from wiping out a city. "Unstoppable" is a tension-filled adrenalin rush. Loosely based on a real Ohio unmanned train incident in 2001, director Tony Scott ("Crimson Tide") manages to bring edge-of-your-seat thrills and suspense to the screen without villains and gunfights. Strong performances from the two stars keep the movie interesting during the slower moments. But ninety percent of the film is pure action - with plenty of crashes and explosions. The supporting cast, with little to do, includes Rosario Dawson as the highly involved train dispatcher and Kevin Dunn as her boss. Some outstanding train footage by cinematographer Ben Seresin and Harry Gregson-Williams' rousing musical score add to the excitement. Just the ticket for fun at the movies, "Unstoppable" is a non-stop joy ride.
